How to draw Friendly Monster

What you need

  • Paper Plain printer paper is perfect.
  • Pencil (HB) For light first shapes you can erase.
  • Black fineliner 0.5 mm, or any black pen.
  • Eraser A soft white eraser.
  • Coloured pencils Any set; sharpen them first.

Step by step

  1. Step 1: Round means friendly
    01

    Big shapes

    Round means friendly

Round shapes feel friendly and spiky shapes feel scary. Lightly draw a big, round blob for a friendly monster.

  2. Step 2: Eye, horns, smile, arms and feet
    02

    Construction

Eye, horns, smile, arms and feet

Add one big circle for the eye, two short horns, a wide smile, stubby arms and two round feet.

  3. Step 3: A fuzzy outline
    03

    Details

    A fuzzy outline

Ink the body with small flicks all the way round, so it looks furry. Then ink the horns, arms and feet.

    04

    Details

A big eye and a toothy smile

Ink the eye with a big pupil and a shine, then the smile with two square teeth and a tongue.

  5. Step 5: Erase the pencil
    05

    Details

    Erase the pencil

When the ink is dry, gently erase all the pencil, including your spiky and round shapes in the corners.

  6. Step 6: Colour it in
    06

    Colour

    Colour it in

Colour the fur lavender, the horns sand, the eye teal, the mouth dark and the tongue pink. Leave the teeth white.

  7. Step 7: Spots, shadow, and make it yours
    07

    Finishing touches

Spots, shadow, and make it yours

Add plum spots and a shadow down the right side. Then make it yours: more eyes, bigger horns, stripes or a new colour!
