How to draw Cartoon Cat
What you need
- Paper Plain printer paper is perfect.
- Pencil (HB) For light first shapes you can erase.
- Black fineliner 0.5 mm, or any black pen.
- Eraser A soft white eraser.
- Coloured pencils Any set; sharpen them first.
Step by step
-
01Big shapes
A circle and a pear
With a light pencil, draw a wide circle for the head and a pear for the body, tucked under it.
-
02Construction
Ears, face lines, legs and tail
Add two small triangle ears, a cross on the face, two lines for the front legs and a tail curving round the front.
-
03Details
Ink the outline
Ink the head and ears, then the tail, because it lies in front. Stop the body and paw lines where they touch the tail.
-
04Details
Face, whiskers and chest
Add big eyes with a shine, a tiny nose, a W mouth, the muzzle and chest fluff, then whiskers fanning out.
-
05Details
Erase the pencil
Let the ink dry for a minute, then gently erase every pencil line.
-
06Colour
Ginger fur
Colour the fur orange, leaving the muzzle and chest white. Pink for the nose and ears, green for the eyes.
-
07Colour
Tabby stripes
With a darker orange, add stripes: an M on the forehead, lines on the cheeks and sides, and rings round the tail.
-
08Finishing touches
Shadow on one side
The light comes from the top left, so add shadow down the right side, under the chin and under the tail.
