For families

For parents

Lapis is built for children to use with a grown-up nearby, and for the grown-up to feel good about it. Here is exactly what we do, and what we never do.

Children’s drawings of a sun, a cat and a house held on a fridge with magnets

What children see

  • No ads, from us or anyone else. No links out of the app, no chat, no other users.
  • No prices. A lesson their profile can’t open shows “Send to my grown-up”, which emails you.
  • Drawing days, not streaks: a week fills with dots, and a missed day never takes anything away.
  • Badges that are surprises, for trying new things, rather than a grind.

What grown-ups look after

Accounts, consent, the family PIN, sharing, your data and paying, in plain words.

Who has an account

Only grown-ups (and teenagers drawing for themselves) make accounts. Sign-up starts with a neutral age question; anyone under 13 is asked to fetch a parent or guardian, and the answer is remembered so it can’t simply be changed.

Children draw inside profiles the grown-up creates. A profile holds a nickname, an age group and a picture chosen from our drawings. Children never give an email address, a password, a surname or a birthday.

The family PIN

Plans, profiles, sharing and settings sit behind a four-digit PIN only grown-ups know. We chose a PIN over the usual “parent gate” sums because children solve those. Too many wrong tries lock it for a few minutes, and a forgotten PIN is reset by email.

Consent

Adding a child’s profile means confirming you are their parent or legal guardian, and then confirming your own email address. That confirmation is your consent, and we email you to say so. If it never arrives, the child’s profile is removed after 14 days.

Drawings and sharing

Drawings live in each profile’s private sketchbook. The family Fridge is visible only inside your household. A grown-up can make a share link for one drawing; it shows the picture and its title, never a name, is hidden from search engines, and stops working after 14 days (or sooner, if you turn it off).

Paying, fairly

Lapis is free for good with a full course in every age group. New accounts get 14 days of Family with no card, so there is nothing to forget to cancel. Paid plans can be cancelled in two taps, and yearly plans refunded in full within 30 days.

Your data

  • We keep what a profile needs to work: its nickname, age group, picture, drawings and lesson progress.
  • We never sell or share it, and there is no advertising or tracking by third parties.
  • Download everything we hold, as one file, from the grown-ups area at any time.
  • Delete a profile, or the whole account, from the same place. Deletion is immediate.
  • A child’s profile that hasn’t been used for 12 months is deleted, after we email you a warning.
