Sharpening the pencils

Who draws with Lapis

Three age groups, from five-year-olds to grown-ups, and families who draw together.

Little Artists, 5 to 7 Sunny suns, cats in hats, a house for a snail
A boy drawing on a tablet with a stylus, on a collage of peach, lined and red paper
Young Artists, 8 to 12 Cartoon foxes, castles and friendly monsters
A teenager with a pencil behind her ear holding her sketchbook, on a collage of blue and halftone paper
Teens Line, form, light and drawing from life
A man drawing with a pen on a touchscreen laptop, on a collage of mint and lined yellow paper
Grown-ups Finally learning to draw, ten minutes at a time

Not just lessons. A whole art room for everyone at home.

Lessons to follow, practice that helps, a canvas for anything, and a sketchbook that keeps it all.

Ink the outline

Trace your best pencil lines with the fineliner: the fluffy head, ears, body, legs and the big tail.

Watch it drawn, then make it yours

Every lesson draws itself one step at a time, the way an art teacher shows you at the table: light shapes first, then the outline, then colour and shadow. Nothing moves on until you’re ready.

  • One step at a time
  • Tracing guides for small hands
  • Every step read aloud
  • Replay any step, any speed

Trace it, fill it, and feel it click into place

Practice mode shows exactly where each step goes: a dotted line to trace, a chequered shape to colour in. A bar fills as you draw, and when the step is done your lines tidy up and the next one appears.

  • Instant feedback
  • Stays inside the lines
  • Stars for care, never for speed
Drills, warm-ups and the skill check
Practice mode: a dotted line to trace around the sun, a chequered area to colour in, and a progress bar filling at the top

A canvas that keeps up with your pencil

Pressure, tilt and palm rejection for Apple Pencil and pen laptops, pinch to zoom and turn the page, and brushes that behave like the real thing. Draw whatever you like, for as long as you like.

  • Pencils, inks, markers, crayon, watercolour and more
  • Hard, soft and kneaded erasers
  • Rest your hand on the screen while you draw
  • A time-lapse of every drawing

Colour together, even from far away

Pick a picture and start a room for your household, or send a grandparent a code. Everyone colours the same page at once, only ever undoes their own colours, and keeps their own copy at the end.

  • No chat, and no strangers
  • Children join other families only with a grown-up’s PIN
  • Everyone saves their own copy

A Daily Doodle, free every morning

A new lesson for each age group every day: something for the bus, the kitchen table or the ten minutes before bed.

The family Fridge

The best drawings go up where the whole household can see them, and nowhere else.

Made for families, safe for children

A grown-up owns the account. Children draw in their own profiles, with nothing to sign up for and nothing to buy.

No ads, ever
Not for Lapis, not for anyone else. We never sell or share data.
No emails for children
A nickname, an age group and a picture are all a child’s profile holds.
A family PIN
Plans, profiles and invites sit behind four digits only grown-ups know.
Drawing days, not streaks
A child’s week fills with dots. Missing a day never takes anything away.
Private by default
The Fridge is only for your household. Share links expire and never show a name.
No chat with anyone
Children colour together with your household, and with other families only when a grown-up says yes.

Questions grown-ups ask

The short answers. There’s more about accounts, consent and data on the page for families.

What age is Lapis for?
Five to grown-up. Little Artists (5 to 7) draw big friendly shapes with read-aloud steps; Young Artists (8 to 12) draw characters and places the way illustrators do; Foundations teaches teens and adults line, form, light and drawing from life.
Do we draw on paper or on the screen?
Either. Every lesson draws itself one step at a time and waits for you. Copy it with a pencil on paper, or draw right on the screen with Apple Pencil, a pen laptop, a finger or a mouse.
What does the free plan include?
The whole Starter course in every age group, a new Daily Doodle every day, the free canvas, tracing guides, step replays and read-aloud, 30 saved drawings per profile and up to 3 profiles. No ads, and it doesn’t run out.
How does the free trial work?
Every new account gets 14 days of Family, with every lesson open. There is no card to enter, so there is nothing to cancel: when the trial ends, Lapis carries on free and nothing is deleted.
Is it safe for my child?
Children draw inside profiles a grown-up creates, with a nickname and a picture. They never need an email or a password, never chat with anyone, and never see an ad or a price. A family PIN keeps plans, invites and settings for grown-ups.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
Cancel from the grown-ups area in two taps; your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. Yearly plans can be refunded in full within 30 days.
