How to draw Cupcake
What you need
- Paper Plain printer paper is perfect.
- Pencil (HB) For light first shapes you can erase.
- Black fineliner 0.5 mm, or any black pen.
- Eraser A soft white eraser.
- Coloured pencils Any set; sharpen them first.
Step by step
-
01Big shapes
Light shapes first
Lightly draw a trapezoid wrapper, wider at the top. Stack three ovals on it, each smaller, and a circle for the cherry.
-
02Construction
Shape the swirl
Make each oval a puffy roll with round ends and a smiling bottom edge. Mark the pleats and the cherry’s stem.
-
03Details
Ink from front to back
Ink the cherry, then each roll from the top down, then the wrapper. Each line stops where it meets a shape in front.
-
04Details
Pleats and swirl lines
Ink the pleats, starting right under the frosting. Add a curve inside each end of the lower rolls to show how they turn.
-
05Details
Erase the pencil
Let the ink dry for a minute, then gently erase every pencil line.
-
06Colour
Colour, but save the shine
Colour the frosting pink, the wrapper blue and the cherry red. Leave a white shine on the upper left of each shape.
-
07Finishing touches
Shadows, and one on the table
Add purple shadow on the lower right of each roll, the cherry and the wrapper, then a shadow on the table to the right.
-
08Finishing touches
Sprinkles
Finish with sprinkles: short, firm dashes of yellow, blue and green, pointing every which way.
