How to draw Fairy-Tale Castle
What you need
- Paper Plain printer paper is perfect.
- Pencil (HB) For light first shapes you can erase.
- Black fineliner 0.5 mm, or any black pen.
- Eraser A soft white eraser.
- Coloured pencils Any set; sharpen them first.
Step by step
-
01Big shapes
Boxes on a line
Lightly draw a flat ground line and a centre line. Stand a tall box in the middle, a tower each side, low walls between.
-
02Construction
Roofs, teeth and a gate
Add tall triangle roofs on the towers. Tick off even teeth along the wall tops for battlements, and sketch the arched gate.
-
03Details
Ink the straight walls
Ink the walls with straight, steady lines. Battlements go up, across, down, across, like a square wave.
-
04Details
Roofs, gate and windows
Ink the pointy roofs and flags, the arched gate with its criss-cross portcullis, the windows and a few groups of stones.
-
05Details
Erase the pencil
Wait a minute for the ink to dry, then gently erase every pencil line, the tick marks too.
-
06Colour
Stone, roofs and flags
Colour the stone grey, the roofs blue and the flags red. Fill the windows and gate dark, and add green grass.
-
07Finishing touches
Round towers, flat walls
The light comes from the top left. Shade the right side of each tower and roof, and a band under each roof edge.
