How to draw A Street Corner in Two-Point
Stand across the street from a corner building. Set your eye level and two vanishing points, measure the floors on the nearest corner, step off equal bays with diagonals and centre a window in each. Then run the kerb with the facades, size a lamp post against the horizon, and put one facade in the sun and one in shadow.

Step by step
-
01Placement
Eye level and two vanishing points
Standing in the street, your eyes are 1.6 m up. Rule the horizon low on the page and set two vanishing points on it.
-
02Big shapes
The nearest corner
Draw the nearest corner as one vertical and tick the floors on it. Run lines from its top and base to each vanishing point.
-
03Construction
Floors and the far ends
Carry each floor from the corner to both vanishing points. Close each facade with a vertical at its far end.
-
04Construction
Equal bays with diagonals
Draw a middle line to the vanishing point. A diagonal from one bay line’s top, through the next one’s middle, finds the bay after.
-
05Construction
A window in the middle of each bay
Cross one bay’s diagonals to find its middle, and hang the window on it. Every sill and head runs to its vanishing point.
-
06Construction
The kerb and the lamp post
The kerb runs with each facade, to the same vanishing points. The lamp post is three eye levels tall: measure it against the horizon.
-
07Construction
Commit the lines, lift the blue
Graphite from corner to corner: the near corner firmest, edges lighter as they recede. Leave the construction behind and lift every blue line.
-
08Light and shadow
One facade in sun, one in shadow
The sun is on the left. The left facades face it and stay light; the right facade turns away: one even middle grey.
-
09Finishing touches
The darkest darks
Deepen the glass by the near corner and the post’s shaded side. Its shadow runs level: the sun is square to your view.
